Battle Grounds (Sonnet 0109)

Love, feared to be lost, has been found again
Memories tug at heartstrings like a young
child, desperate not to be forgotten.
Harsh Words stand ready to spring from the tongue,
but Time, the gentle beast, calms the fiercest
of inner demons, laying steady hands
on those two hearts enraged, putting to rest
flames that pulsed through veins, leaving Love to stand
alone, battered but intact, the battle
fought, yet far from won. Exhaustion takes hold,
whispering false safety, his deceitful
promises alluring, but weak as gold.
Soon Survival reigns, taking sweet Love in
and the rejoining of two hearts begins
myriah
